"I definitely grew as a person while I studied abroad, it forced me out of my comfortable, little bubble here in the US." -Sara

I studied abroad in Valladolid, Spain during the summer, through the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. Because I was only there over break, my time spent overseas was shorter than usual. There were pros and cons to studying over the summer term; it didn’t impact my course plan for graduation but I wasn’t able to travel as much as most abroad students do.

The academic structure of my program was pretty simple. We had class Monday through Friday mornings. This schedule was nice because we were able to plan a few Day Excursions after class was finished. Our school allowed for us to go on field trip every weekend! This let us tour different cities in Spain without having to worry about transportation costs. We took trips to 9 different cities (either on a field trip or planning a day excursion).

I ended up staying in Spain for the two months that I was there. That was a very good choice for me because I got to see parts of Spain that I didn’t even think of before I studied abroad. Staying in your host country really makes you appreciate all the different cultures that you can find throughout just one country. In the two short months that I was there, I got to travel to 11 cities other than Valladolid, my host city. We went to Santander, Burgos, Málaga, León, Segovia, Santiana Del Mar, Simancas, Madrid, Salamanca, Barcelona, and Ávila.

I think my favorite part about going abroad was learning a different culture. The daily life in Spain is so interesting! I definitely grew as a person while I studied abroad, it forced me out of my comfortable, little bubble here in the United States. Being in Spain allowed me to see a glimpse of what my life would be like if I moved there. Now, moving to Spain is my goal and I cannot wait!
