"Being able to go to other countries simply for the weekend made me feel much more free than I ever have before." -Mohammed

My program through the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire brought me to the University of Limerick in Ireland. I was a full-time student in the fall semester of 2018, and I enjoyed almost everything about it. The academic structure was generally split into lectures and tutorials: lectures for theory, and tutorials for practical application. I found it to be so much more laid back and effective than US institutions. Also, your social life is actually supported by the university with intense club funding and their academic format (essentially ‘you get the education you want’ by placing more responsibility on the student to do their learning activities.) There are pros and cons to it, but overall it was less stressful and had fewer deadlines.

I was able to visit Germany, France, Greece, the Netherlands, and Scotland. Each place has its own culture, architecture, and food. Being able to go to other countries simply for the weekend (and super cost-effectively, too) made me feel much more free than I ever have before. To be fair, I also did have little-to-no responsibilities attached. Really, when it comes down to it, the best part was being with people who were willing to explore and be respectful of the culture. Having friends who can appreciate each place for its own unique activities and lifestyle is the most rewarding. Easier to party with those kinds of people, too.
