Sara Z. (UW) Valladolid, Spain Program

WHY SHOULD I VISIT?
A few students and I decided to arrive in Spain a few days before the start of our study abroad program. This was possibly the best decision we could have made. We stayed in an Airbnb with a Spanish family. They were very inviting and gave us tips on how to work the subway system. We got to plan our days and fill them with museum tours, walking around the parks, and LOTS of good food. What made this trip so unique was the fact that this was the first city we saw in Spain. I loved the fast paced, big city feel of Madrid; something was always going on no matter what time of day or night.
THE 'UNMISSABLE' ITINERARY
A walk in Retiro Park, after breakfast at Manolo Bakes
The Royal Palace of Madrid
Sunset at Parque de la Montaña
Plaza Mayor
Las Ventas Plaza de Toros (I wouldn’t recommend going to see an actual bullfight- they are very very gory)
Calle Gran Via for great shopping
